JOB SUMMARY:

The Field Service Technician I is an entry level position that requires frequent travel to customer sites to assist with installation, servicing and repair of automated packaging machinery. Work assignments are varied, but limited in scope and complexity. Work typically is under the direction of more experienced staff.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Learn and demonstrate the "6+1 ways" customer service model at all times.
  • Able and willing to travel a minimum of 75% of the time to perform tasks at customer sites.
  • Assist and learn from experienced field service technicians and machine assemblers.
  • Learn how to troubleshoot packaging machines and resolve mechanical, electrical, and programming issues.
  • Learn how to communicate effectively with field service advisors to resolve technical issues.
  • Learn to establish a positive and professional relationship with customer personnel.
  • Learn how to document pertinent technical and customer information to facilitate an ongoing business relationship.
  • Learns to produce and submit accurate trip and expense reports in a timely manner.
  • Be proactive at learning new components and design principles as they are introduced.
  • Learn how to proactively identify product/service sales opportunities at customer sites that will enhance customer's packaging processes.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with related tasks and projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able and willing to learn and apply required customer service skills.
  • Must have the ability to learn, produce, and submit accurate trip and expense reports in a timely manner.
  • Must have a good mechanical and electrical background in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably in the packaging manufacturing industry.
  • Prefer candidate have knowledge of automated machine controls.
  • Must be able to read and follow blueprints, machine drawings, and electrical drawings.
  • Must be proficient in the use of a laptop computer and related software.
  • Must be able to use a variety of equipment and hand tools.
  • Must be able and willing to travel a minimum 75% of the time.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Squat, kneel, or crouch frequently- drilling, tightening/installing bolts, and aligning parts.
    • Crawl occasionally-assembling parts and putting in bolts.
    • Climb step ladders frequently-carrying wrenches, parts, and bolts.
    • Reach above shoulder level frequently-drilling, tightening/installing bolts, aligning parts, and installing cams.
    • Push on drill 14 to 19 lbs. force (1 or 2 hands depending on position) continuously.
    • Balance continuously-while climbing and working around machinery.
    • Use foot controls occasionally-drill press and pallet jack.
    • Carry metal parts and tools ranging from 1 lb. - 10 lbs. between 5-20 ft. continuously.
    • Carry metal parts ranging from 11 lbs. - 24 lbs. between 5-20 ft. frequently.
    • Carry metal parts ranging from 25 lbs. - 50 lbs. between 5-20 ft. occasionally.
    • One hand carries 50-lb. toolbox to/from car to cart rarely.
    • Lift metal parts and tools ranging from 1 lb. - 10 lbs. at 36" continuously.
    • Lift metal parts ranging from 11 lbs. - 50 lbs. at 36" occasionally.
    • Lift metal parts ranging from 1 lb. - 24 lbs. from 6" to 36" frequently.
    • Lift metal parts and gearboxes ranging from 25 lbs. - 50 lbs. from 6" to 36" occasionally.
    • Lift metal parts ranging from 1 lb. - 30 lbs. from 6" up to 72" occasionally.
    • Lifting over 50 lbs. is performed by 2 employees.
    • Grip continuously-for tool use and parts handling.
    • Pinch continuously-parts handling.

 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Must have a two year technical degree in machine automation or related field such as Mechatronics, Robotics, Fluid Power, Aeronautics Maintenance, or Industrial Maintenance, or a high school diploma and two years of demonstrated work experience in the packaging manufacturing industry or a related technical field.
