The Sales Engineer (SE) assists Regional Sales Managers (RSMs) to (a) generate budgeted gross profit margin volume within the assigned markets, (b) understand and satisfy customer needs, (c) support Douglas Machine, Inc.'s partner representatives, (d) cultivate relationships and new business prospects and existing customers, and (e) maintain active after shipment follow up documentation for fostering customer acceptance of machinery. This will include 30-, 60- and 90-day follow ups with customers. The SE will have strong technical aptitude, a good understanding of our products, an enthusiastic and professional demeanor, and a positive can-do attitude. The SE will also perform other reasonable tasks, as may be required from time-to-time, and requested by management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

  • Develop in conjunction with RSM'(s) the most efficient coverage support pattern for assigned projects in single or multiple regions. This will include projects, requests for proposals (RFPs), customer support, quotation process, sales and after-sale follow up.
  • Develop a project sales plan and for each project to cover all products and services of Douglas Machine Inc.
  • Maintain continuous contact with prospects and customers, both directly through field sales work and indirectly through the representative network, to insure continued customer satisfaction and obtain additional sales leads.
  • Responsible for completeness and accuracy of the RFP on all projects that they originate in their assigned market or geography, and for those originated by Representatives, Engineering Firms and Turn Key accounts in their assigned market in support of RSM(s).
  • Prepares and conducts sales presentations and presents proposals to Customers, with or without RSM(s) or Representatives.
  • Travels to customer locations, with or without Representatives, on a scheduled basis, with travel time being approximately 50% of working days in a year (110 days).
  • Keeps informed of all manufacturing activities and machine status in relation to scheduled customer visits and inspections.
  • As assigned, develop skills and experience by acting as territory lead to generate budgeted gross profit margin volume within assigned markets.

  • Demonstrated sales ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer acceptance.
  • Sound knowledge of the packaging machinery industry preferred.
  • Ability to work well with all departments within the organization.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Proficient in the use of CAD software preferred.


Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing, Business or related field along with 5 years of relevant sales experience or Associate degree in Sales, Marketing, Business or related field with 7 years of relevant sales experience preferred.
