JOB SUMMARY:

The Product Manager is a dynamic role designed to develop, and manage the product life cycle for new and existing product opportunities at Douglas.  Working as part of the marketing team and for the product or market areas assigned, the scope of the role will include guiding product offerings through a product life cycle, researching and developing new market and product opportunities, market liaison for new product development and applications, product promotion, and managing key industry alliances to achieve market position in targeted market and product segments.  The role includes supporting the development of related business processes.

This professional will have a strong balance of technical and marketing skills represented by proven experiences in relationship management, product management, technical applications or sales, market research, general business management, and marketing skills.

To successfully perform the duties of this position, the Product Manager will regularly collaborate with other internal departments, market facing contacts and corporate professionals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

Product Development Life Cycle Management:  To develop, implement, and regularly process an effective product development life cycle management for the assigned products.  The process will identify, assess, prioritize and subsequently process key products through the engineering, manufacturing, service, and marketing launch process. This function must serve as a conduit between the Sales and Marketing and Research, Design and Development organizations to ensure market fit, internal coordination, and effective launch results.

Product Management - To guide the development of and oversee assigned product offerings to ensure they are addressing the requirements of existing target markets and positions the products for expansion with new product offerings and third party integrations.

Product Marketing:  To ensure a competitive offering in the market place with company-wide launch planning, messaging, superior branding, positioning, pricing, collateral, web marketing, promotions and sales tool development.  The Product Manager shall coordinate and solicit content provisioning for these elements.

Alliance Management:  To contribute to the success of the assigned product lines by developing strategic alliances with targeted equipment, materials and engineering service providers. This will involve market research and coordination of marketing tactics with other sales and marketing team members and other internal departments.

Industry and Product Knowledge:  To develop and maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, customer operations, and competitive offerings to effectively position products in the market.

Business Opportunity Development and Execution:  Develop and support business processes and execute the business as required to realize the business opportunity for the assigned products and markets.

This individual will be required to provide a myriad of hands-on and management activities which vary depending on the life cycle stage of the opportunity including; market research, preliminary market requirements definition, product definition, business case development, support of strategic decision-making, and hands-on support and execution of business including application engineering and proposal support and project management.

Other Duties as Assigned:  To respond with flexibility to the needs of the business both internally and externally by addressing important corporate initiatives when requested by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong leadership and management/supervisory skills

  • Ability to travel as needed (up to 50%)
  • Proficient in the usage of Microsoft Office and Douglas business systems.
  • Strong skills in the areas of technical applications, product management, marketing, negotiations, and presentation

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • BA or BS degree, preferably in a related field.
  • 5 plus years of experience interfacing with customers and the market through product marketing or product management experience, or through technical sales experience within the packaging machinery market.
  • Prefer 5 plus years of experience in the packaging machinery market.
